Yashasvi Jaiswal Closing In On Sachin Tendulkar's Iconic Milestone
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are set to lock horns against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 42nd fixture of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season on April 24 (Thursday) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
With the playoff race heating up, it's crucial for the Rajasthan Royals to get back to winning ways. A lot will depend on opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been in sublime touch, registering three successive half-centuries and emerging as a key force at the top of the order.
The southpaw also stands on the brink of a major milestone, with a chance to surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Having amassed 1,914 runs in 60 IPL innings so far, Yashasvi Jaiswal needs just 86 more to reach the 2,000-run mark. If he achieves it within the next two innings, he will become the third-fastest Indian and fifth-fastest overall to the milestone surpassing Tendulkar's record in the process.
For those unfamiliar, the legendary Sachin Tendulkar reached the 2,000-run milestone in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the 2012 season, accomplishing the feat in 63 innings. Tendulkar went on to conclude his IPL career with a total of 2,334 runs from 78 matches. He maintained a commendable batting average of 34.84 and a strike rate of 119.81, registering 13 half-centuries and a solitary century during his time in the league.
When it comes to Indian cricketers, Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad holds the record for being the fastest to score 2,000 IPL runs. He reached the milestone in just 57 innings.
However, the record for the fastest to 2,000 runs in IPL history belongs to the explosive West Indian batter Chris Gayle. He achieved the feat in a mere 48 innings back in 2013, setting a benchmark that remains unbeaten to this day. Gayle wrapped up his IPL journey with a formidable tally of 4,965 runs from 142 matches, averaging 39.72 with an iconic reputation as one of the most destructive T20 batsmen the game has ever seen.
