Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent out a strong message over the Pahalgam terror attack saying India will not be cowed down by terrorism and would go to the end of the world to pursue the terrorists. “India will identify, track and punish every terrorist, their handlers and their backers. Terrorism will not go unpunished,” he said during a rally in Bihar.

Modi who had a scheduled event related to Panchayati Raj, in Bihar, used the occasion to send a bold political message. He spoke in English during the rally while talking about India’s resolve to respond appropriately. This was aimed at the world leaders so that they take cognisance of the government’s stance. “Every effort will be made to ensure that justice is done. The entire nation is firm in this resolve. Everyone who believes in humanity is with us. I thank the people of various countries and their leaders, who have stood with us in these times,” Modi said.

Earlier during the same speech, addressing in Hindi, he said that enemies of the nation have tried to attack the soul of India. “I want to say in clear words... whosoever have attacked – the terrorists, the main conspirators – will be punished beyond their imagination,” the PM said, with the entire leadership of Bihar including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, cabinet ministers Chirag Paswan, Lallan Singh among those present.

The event, which was planned months in advance for the NDA leaders to address the electorate jointly, was important for political reasons, too, as the state goes to polls in October-November.

As the Pahalgam attack had come two days ahead of the event, all eyes were on his speech and likely message. In fact, he started his speech asking the people gathered in the rally to observe silence as a mark of tribute for those killed during the terror attack in the valley.

“Entire country is sad at the inhuman killing of innocent in Pahalgam. We are with the families of all the victims. Entire country is with them. Government is making all eforrts of all those injured. In this attack, some lost their son, brother or husband. Someone spoke in Bangla, Gujarati, Odia or even Bihari. Our pain is same from Kargil to Kanyakumari. Our anger is same,” Modi said.

He added that those who carried out the attack, and their conspirators, will get punishment beyond their imagination. “It’s now time to push them to the ground. The resolve of 140 crore Indians will break the back of terrorists.”
