Grandeur of an old time: Shirley MacLaine

Shirley MacLaine, one of the last remaining stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood, turns 91 this April 24. Born to perform, the multifaceted actress is also an author, dancer, and singer. Her passion for expressing herself was born at a young age. From the age of three, she started dancing. As she grew up, she also developed herself in singing and acting. 

She has been nominated for 6 Academy Awards and won Best Actress for Terms of Endearment in 1984. She had acclaimed 7 Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy Award for the television special Gypsy in My Soul. She was honoured with the Golden Bear Award for lifetime achievement at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Cecil B. DeMille Award. She has won two British Academy awards, two German Silver Bear and Golden Camera awards, two Volpi Cup awards at the Venice Film Festival, two Donatello awards in Italy, and the New York Film Critics and Los Angeles Film Critics awards. She is the recipient of the French Legion of Honor, the Kennedy Center Honors, and the American Film Institute (AFI) Lifetime Achievement Award.

Some of her prominent movies are The Apartment (1960),  Terms of Endearment (1983), Turning Point (1977), Being There (1979), Madame Sousatzka (1988), Steel Magnolias (1989), Postcards from the Edge (1990), In Her Shoes (2005), Bernie (2011), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013), and Noelle (2018). She was a well-known and much-appreciated actor and had written many books on metaphysics, spirituality, and reincarnation. She is one of the best-selling authors, and her books Out on a Limb, Feeling Good, The Camino: A Journey of the Spirit, and The Wall of Life speak of her life and views.

Shirley has hosted a radio program, Independent Expression,  on her website. She has thus marked her name in various fields as an actress, author, dancer, and singer.
