Mukesh Ambani’s net worth is much higher than GDP of THESE 9 Indian States, list includes Goa, Himachal Pradesh and…

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, has climbed to the 7th position on the list of the world’s richest people. Just a few years ago in April 2020, he was ranked 21st. As of April 2025, Mukesh Ambani’s net worth is estimated at approximately USD 92.5 billion, making him the richest person in India and Asia. In Indian currency, his net worth translates to approximately Rs. 7.1 lakh crore. According to Forbes Real-Time Billionaires list, Ambani has now overtaken notable names like Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway, and Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

He’s not only the only Indian in the world’s top 10 richest people but also the only person from Asia to hold a place in this elite list. To give perspective, his is much higher than the combined GDP of nine smaller Indian states, which totals around Rs. 5.31 lakh crore. According to data sourced from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI), these nine states together have a total GDP of Rs. 5.31 lakh crore far less than Ambani’s net worth, which stands at Rs. 7.1 lakh crore.

Here’s a breakdown of the states and their GDP figures (in crore rupees):

  • Mizoram – Rs. 19,457 crore
  • Arunachal Pradesh – Rs. 22,045 crore
  • Manipur – Rs. 23,968 crore
  • Meghalaya – Rs. 25,630 crore
  • Sikkim – Rs. 26,786 crore
  • Tripura – Rs. 46,133 crore
  • Goa – Rs. 77,172 crore
  • Jammu & Kashmir – Rs. 1,38,488 crore
  • Himachal Pradesh – Rs. 1,53,181 crore

Back in April 2020, Ambani was much lower on the list, sitting at number 21. Since then, his fortune has grown significantly — in fact, over the past five years, it has increased more than 3.5 times.

A major turning point was when Reliance entered the telecom industry in September 2016 by launching Jio. Before this, in March 2016, Ambani’s net worth was around USD 19.3 billion. Since then, his wealth has jumped by about USD 50 billion, or approximately Rs. 3.86 lakh crore.

Another key factor has been the sharp rise in Reliance’s stock price.  While Jio has played a big role in this growth, Forbes points out that Reliance’s oil and gas business is also a strong contributor. These segments together generate about USD 88 billion (nearly Rs. 6.68 lakh crore) in annual revenue for the company.

World’s Top 3 Billionaires hold more wealth than India’s annual budget

As of April 2025, the combined wealth of the world’s top three billionaires—Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos—has surpassed India’s entire annual budget for the fiscal year 2025–26.

  • Elon Musk leads the list with a net worth of USD 342 billion, driven by the success of Tesla, SpaceX, and his AI ventures.
  • Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of Meta Platforms, holds the second position with a fortune of USD 216 billion.
  • Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, ranks third with a net worth of USD 215 billion.

Together, their combined wealth amounts to USD 773 billion.

In comparison, India’s Union Budget for 2025–26 is estimated at ₹50.65 lakh crore, which is approximately USD 610 billion.
