Biggest Anti-Naxal Operation Underway In Chhattisgarh's Bijapur; Around 1,500 Naxals Trapped: Sources
Bijapur: One of the biggest anti-Naxal operations is currently underway in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur. The operation was launched by security forces in the forest area of Karregutta located along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border earlier this week. So far three Naxals have been killed. Around 1500 armed Naxalites are present in the area.
The joint operation is being carried out by security personnel from three states - Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. At least three Naxalites have been killed so far in the operation which began three days ago.
The operation was launched almost two months after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s stern warning to Naxalites. He set a March 31, 2026, deadline to eliminate Naxalism from the region.
As per sources, most wanted CPI Maoist commanders Hidma and Deva present in the area with their cadres.
Security Personnel At Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra Border:
The sources further claimed that three battalions of security forces have been dispatched from Chhattisgarh side. From the Telangana side, the Greyhound force is involved in the operation from the Telangana side. Apart from these two forces, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is also taking part in the joint operation.
State Home Minister Vijay Sharma, ADG Naxal Ops, IG Bastar, CRPF IG monitoring the movements of forces. Security personnel are using drones to monitor the movement of Naxals.
Indian Air Force choppers are also involved in the operation to help in a rescue operation.
What Amit Shah Said On Naxalism?
In February this year Shah vowed to end Naxalism by March 31, 2026. While speaking at CRPF’s 86th Raising Day function as the chief guest in Neemuch on April 17, Shah reiterated the Centre's commitment to end Naxalism by March Next year. He said that Naxalism, which is confined to just four districts in India, will be eliminated by March 31, 2026, and the CRPF is the "backbone" of this mission. Shah added that he is confident of victory wherever the CRPF is deployed.
