Sanju Samson Injury Update: Here's What Head Coach Rahul Dravid Said

Rajasthan Royals' Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign has been underwhelming so far, and one of the key factors behind their struggles is the inconsistent availability of their captain, Sanju Samson.

The team has lost six matches this season - on par with Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad - denting their playoff hopes.

Dravid provides update on injured Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson, who started the season playing as a specialist batter due to fitness concerns, has missed the last couple of matches entirely.

Head coach Rahul Dravid has now shared an update on his condition. Speaking to the media in Bengaluru ahead of tonight's RCB vs RR match, Dravid confirmed that Samson is still not match-fit and has not been cleared by the medical team.

"Sanju experienced discomfort during the match against Delhi. He wasn’t fit to play the previous game or this one, and our medical staff advised against his participation," Dravid said.

In the seven matches Samson has played this season, he has scored 224 runs at an average above 30 and a strike rate of 140.

Dravid also addressed why Samson hasn't been seen with the squad lately: "On medical advice, he’s avoiding travel to prevent aggravating the injury. The physio is working closely with him, and we’re monitoring his condition daily."

When asked about a possible return date, Dravid clarified that no fixed timeline has been set. Rajasthan Royals will next face Royal Challengers Bangalore, followed by matches against Gujarat Titans on April 28 and Mumbai Indians on May 1 at home. Whether Samson will be fit in time for any of these key fixtures remains uncertain.
