PAU employee reinstated after suspension, union blames ‘turn of events’ reason for wife’s death

The employee of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) who was suspended reportedly due to his confrontation with the Aam Aadmi Party leader has been reinstated on Thursday.

PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr SS Gosal said that the suspended employee, Amrik Singh, has submitted a written application stating that he was not at fault and a committee, after verifying the facts, has taken the decision.

“Three days’ time was given to the union and today is the second day, and after all the verifications, he has been reinstated and orders for the same have been issued just now,” said Dr Gosal.

On Tuesday, the PAU Employees Union was to hold a protest against the suspension, but the Police Commissionerate Ludhiana deployed heavy police force in the university campus and several members of the union were detained.

Later, a meeting was held between the PAU VC and union members, and the V-C had sought three days to solve the issue.

Meanwhile, Amrik Singh’s wife died yesterday midnight. She was undergoing a kidney transplant at PGI. “She went under stress after the turn of events and died. I blame the entire episode, the reason behind her death,” said the employee.

President of the PAU Employees Union, Baldev Singh said that the news of his wife’s death is very unfortunate. Congress leader, Bharat Bhushan Ashu also reached Amrik Singh’s residence to condole the death of his wife.
