Flag-lowering ceremony at Attari-Wagah border likely to be done away with

The popular flag-lowering ceremony at the Attari-Wagah border crossing is likely to be done away with, sources said.

Though BSF officials did not immediately confirm the development, sources said that in furtherance of the the Cabinet Committee on Security’s decision on Wednesday evening regarding the immediate closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, the popular flag-lowering ceremony was likely to be called off.

The ceremony is quite popular among tourists who visit Amritsar. Held every evening, thousands of visitors from both India and Pakistan gather at the Attari-Wagah checkpoint to witness the flag-lowering ceremony, which is conducted by personnel of BSF and Pakistan Rangers.

The CCS meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday evening in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, had taken a slew of decisions including closing down of the ICP at Attari with immediate effect.
