Mumbai Metro 3 Update: Aqua Line Connecting BKC To Aarey To Run On Revised Timings Temporarily On April 25 & 26 Ahead Of Phase 2 Launch

Mumbai: Commuters using Mumbai Metro Line 3, popularly known as the Aqua Line, currently running between Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Aarey stretch, will need to adjust their travel plans over the next two days, as revised operational timings have been announced for April 25 and 26. The changes were communicated on Thursday through the official social media handle of Mumbai Metro Line 3, citing technical reasons for the temporary revision.

Details On Revised Timings

According to the notification, services will run from 6:30 am to 9:30 pm on Thursday, April 25, and from 7:30 am to 9:30 pm on Friday, April 26. Officials have urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly, noting that the temporary inconvenience comes ahead of upcoming service expansions.

Currently, the Aqua Line’s Phase 1, spanning from Aarey to the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), is operational and has been serving thousands of daily riders since its launch. Covering 12.44 kilometers and including 10 stations, this section offers 96 trips a day between 6:30 am and 10:30 pm, cutting commute times between Aarey and BKC from over an hour by road to just 30 minutes. Fares range from Rs 10 to Rs 50 for a one-way ride.

Phase 2 Nears Completion

Meanwhile, Phase 2 of Metro Line 3, which extends the route from Dharavi to Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli, is in the final stages of preparation. The segment is currently awaiting approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), which is mandatory before the line can be opened to the public. Once cleared, the extension is expected to provide a major boost in connectivity for central Mumbai.

Upon full completion, the 33.5-kilometre underground corridor will offer seamless links to six major business districts, 30 office hubs, 12 educational institutions, 11 hospitals, 10 transport nodes, and 25 religious and recreational landmarks. Crucially, it will also connect commuters directly to both Mumbai’s domestic and international airports.

Metro Line 3 is expected to become one of Mumbai’s busiest transit corridors, with projections suggesting it could cater to as many as 1.4 million passengers daily within its first year of full-scale operations.

While the temporary change in timings may cause minor disruptions, officials say the inconvenience is a small price to pay for the larger vision of building a faster, more accessible and more efficient transit system for the city.
