Kerala Family Thanks 'Salty Mutton Roganjosh' For Narrow Escape From Pahalgam Attack
A family from Kerala narrowly avoided a deadly attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, thanks to an unexpectedly salty plate of “mutton roganjosh” that delayed their travel plans. Lavanya, a resident of Kochi, was vacationing with ten relatives when the attack unfolded.
The group, which included Lavanya’s husband Alby George, their three children, Alby’s parents, a cousin sister, and her family, had spent two days exploring Srinagar before setting off for Pahalgam, as per a report on India Today. On the day of the attack, they were just two kilometers away from the site when they noticed a herd of 10 to 20 horses charging downhill in panic.
The terror attack, carried out by militants, targeted tourists and resulted in the deaths of 26 people. The attackers specifically singled out Hindus, shooting them at close range. Among the victims was a pony ride provider who was shot while trying to disarm one of the attackers.
Salty Mutton Roganjosh 'Saves' Lives
The delay in the Kerala family’s travel plans began when they stopped for a meal just 15 minutes before reaching Baisaran meadow. After skipping lunch the previous day, they opted for a eatery. However, the mutton rogan josh they ordered turned out to be overly salty, leaving the family feeling uncomfortable, as reported by Telegraph India. The restaurant staff offered to prepare a fresh dish, which prompted the family to reorder and resulted in an hour-long delay.
This unexpected delay turned out to be a blessing. As they resumed their journey, they encountered chaos just two kilometers from their destination. Upon asking locals, they learned of rising tensions in the area with security forces present. Their driver suggested continuing, as such incidents were not uncommon, but the family opted to turn back, sensing danger.
Later, while spending time by a lake in the valley, shopkeepers warned them to leave due to escalating tensions around 4:30 pm. The family returned to their resort, and shortly after, they received calls informing them of a major terror attack at Baisaran meadow.
