Income Tax Department Sends 250-Page Notice To Saurabh Sharma, Chetan In Benami Case
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Benami Wing of the Income Tax Department has issued a 250-page show cause notice to suspended Transport Department constable Saurabh Sharma and his close aide, Chetan Singh Gaur.
Meanwhile, the department has attached 52 kg of gold and ₹11 crore in cash that were found in an abandoned car in Mendori.
It is said that, before attaching the said assets, the Income Tax Department served a show cause notice to the duo under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act.
Both individuals have been given a period of three months to respond. The Adjudicating Authority of the Income Tax Department will review all evidence and decide whether the attached properties should be permanently seized.
Person who supplied gold to Saurabh identified
Sources revealed that officials have also identified a person named Preetam, who allegedly supplied gold to Saurabh. Saurabh would then proceed with further transactions.
The department suspected that the seized gold and cash belong to Saurabh, although he continues to deny ownership. It is being reported that the department may also move to attach properties purchased in the names of Saurabh’s relatives.
Additionally, assets acquired in the names of companies associated with Saurabh may also be seized.
Notably, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had already attached the gold, cash, and vehicle during its own investigation.
