Terror attack evokes widespread condemnation

The killing of tourists Jammu and Kashmir by terrorists has evoked widespread condemnation.

BJP leaders, including former Union Minister Som Parkash,Vijay Sampla, ex-Rajya Sabha member Avinash Rai Khanna, former Punjab Minister Manoranjan Kalia and Anil Sareen said such actions aimed at spreading fear in the name of religion.

Leaders and members of groups such as Shiv Sena Punjab, Shiv Sena UBT and Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Suraksha Samiti also gathered at the historic Hanuman Garih Temple on GT Road to stage protest. They condemned the attack and called on the government to take action to ensure the safety of citizens and accountability for perpetrators. The demonstrators called for a compensation package of Rs 1 crore and a government job for the families of those who lost their lives.

A protest march was carried out from Hanuman Garhi Temple to the Phagwara Bus Stand. Symbolic acts such as slogan-chanting and the burning of a Pakistani flag were carried out by some participants.

In Hoshiarpur, the Youth Citizen Council Punjab organised a protest against the attack on tourists in Pahalgam. BJP national vice-president and former MP Avinash Rai Khanna and Council State president Dr Raman Ghai said Pakistan should be given a befitting reply, just like Pulwama.

A special meeting of the governing body of Rotary Eye Bank and Corneal Transplantation Society was held to pay tribute to the tourists killed in the attack.

Shri Bhagwan Parshuram Sena and Shiv Sena Hindustan also took out a protest march and burnt the effigy of terrorist organisation TRF and Pakistan at Kanak Mandi Chowk. Ashutosh Sharma said the attack in Pahalgam was a big threat to the security and peace of the entire country. State president of Shiv Sena Hindustan Rajinder Rana said that the attack shows how the terrorists are trying to challenge the internal security of the country.

District Congress Committee spokesperson and former chairman of Nagar Sudhar Trust, advocate Rakesh Marwaha, while paying tribute to the tourists killed in the terrorist attack, said that the Central and state governments need to deal strictly with the terrorists so that such an incident does not happen again.

Swadeshi Jagran Manch’s National Council member Krishna Sharma and District Planning Committee Chairperson Karamjit Kaur called it a direct attack on the unity and integrity of the country. Senior BJP leader Tikshan Sood said the Kashmir Valley should be handed over to the Army.

Office-bearers of Rajput Sabha, Hoshiarpur, condemned the incident during a meeting under the chairmanship of Pradhan, Thakur Sarjivan Singh. Terrorists have nothing to do with caste, language, area or party, he said.
