Demand for AIIMS in Doaba raised at meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has stated that India’s industrial sector is witnessing a significant surge in exports and efforts are being made to further enhance this growth as the country continues to create promising opportunities for industrial expansion.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the Small-Scale Industries Association, Laghu Udyog Bharti and BJP workers along with GNA University, Phagwara, at Club Cabana late on Tuesday evening, Birla emphasised that while developed nations are facing a labour shortage, India stands out due to its strong democratic framework and abundant labour force. These factors, he said, are encouraging more investors to set up projects in the country.

During the session, Birla listened to the concerns of local industrialists and assured them that a delegation from Phagwara could visit Delhi, where he would facilitate meetings with the Union Ministers concerned to address and resolve their issues.

Mukhtinder Singh and Ashok Sethi, leaders of Laghu Udyog Bharti, raised a pressing demand for the revival of the JCT Mill in Phagwara, which has been closed for the past two years. They stressed that the livelihood of over 12,000 migrant workers and their families was at stake. They urged the government to take over and operate the mill and get released the Provident Fund (PF) dues allegedly withheld by the mill management.

The delegation also appealed for the establishment of a major industry and AIMS or PGI hospital in the Doaba region. Additionally, they called for the rollback of the new ISI mark requirement imposed by the Central Industries Department on small-scale casting industries, claiming it could drive many small units to the brink of closure.
