Wide spread protests in Jammu region over Pahalgam killings

JAMMU, Apr 23: Against the killings of tourists in Pahalgam yesterday, massive protests erupted against Pakistan across Jammu region today.
To protest against the terrorists attack at Pahalgam Jammu High Court Bar Association took out a rally from High Court complex to Maharaja Hari Singh Chowk at Tawi bridge where a massive protest was held. The Yuva Rajput Sabha activists who had already assembled there also joined the protest with Bar Association, members of civil society Jammu and other socio-religious organizations including BJP, BJYM and ABVP. With Tri Colours in their hands they demanded strong action against Pakistan and urged Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Home Minister, Amit Shah to act decisively against the enemy country which is mother of terrorism. The protest was also joined by BJP leaders including former President of the party Ravinder Raina and MLA Udhampur West, R S Pathinia who warned Pakistan of dire consequences.
The protest of J&K High Court Bar Association was led by its president K Nirmal Singh and besides High Court work in all subordinate courts remained suspended for the day.
Addressing protestors Bar president urged Government , police authorities and administration to take quick action against those involved in this barbaric and inhuman act.
Yuva Rajput Sabha (YRS) president, Vikram Singh Vicky who also addressed the rally while strongly condemning terrorism and killings, demanded tough action against Pakistan.
A massive protest was held by Congress at Shaheedi Chowk here against the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. The protestors with Party flags in their hands were raising slogans against Pakistan and Government for its failure in containing terrorism. They also demanded resignation of Union Home Minister, Amit Shah. The protestors also torched effigy of Pakistan. The Congress leaders including former Dy CM, Tara Chand, former party president, Vikar Rasool, former MP, Ch Lal Singh, Congress spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma, party general secretary, Manmohan Singh who led the protest termed the killing of tourists a big security lapse and questioned the Government’s claims on return of normalcy.
Earlier Congress activists took out a rally from the party office here but police prevented them from proceeding, resulting in a brief clash.
Former Minister, Yogesh Sahni, said the Congress and the people of the country stand by those who have lost their near ones in the Pahalgam attack.
“The Government should take the strongest measures against those involved in the attack,” Sahni said.
A massive protest was also held at Rehari Chowk by activists of various organisations and local residents who burnt tyre tubes on the road and also expressed their grave anger against the killing of tourists demanding tough action against terrorism and Pakistan.
Protest was held by irate people at Chinore Chowk, Janipur, Talab Tillo, Bohri Chowk against the killing of tourists.
Another joint protest was held by activists of Durga Nagar Welfare Society and Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj (YAIKS) activists led by Kapil Chib former corporator and Sanjay Ganjoo respectively demanding tough action agianst terrorism and Pakistan.
Led by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Yudhvir Sethi, a joint protest march was taken out in the Satwari area by the Saffron party, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal and other social organisations.
Raising slogans against Pakistan, its army chief, terrorists and their local support structure, the protesters demanded a befitting reply to the neighboring country and its terrorist networks in Jammu and Kashmir. They also burnt Pakistan’s flag.
“We want a crackdown by security forces on terrorists and their local support structure. A befitting reply should be given to Pakistan,” former Jammu and Kashmir Minister, Priya Sethi told reporters here.
Chairman All J&K Transport Welfare Association, Karan Singh Wazir whose organization too had given bandh call today while strongly condemning the killing of tourists said that terrorists and Pakistan should be given a befitting reply for this barbaric and dastardly act.
Several Muslim organisations, both jointly and individually, took out protest marches in Rajouri, Poonch, Doda, Kishtwar, Banihal and Udhampur.
They condemned the attack and demanded stern action against the perpetrators.
“We condemn this attack. It is un-Islamic. Islam does not allow innocents to be killed. We want the government to take stern action against the culprits,” said Aijaz Khan, a leader.
Massive protests erupted in the border town of Rajouri, with people taking to the streets against the Pahalgam terror attack.
The protests were held under the banner of Mohan Sanatan Dharam Sabha Rajouri, with people calling for a final assault against terrorism.
Protests were held by Rashtriya Bajrang Dal at various places in Jammu also.
“These were targeted killings. It is our demand that action should be taken against Pakistan and its local support base,” Rashtriya Bajrang Dal chairman Rakesh told reporters.
Similar protests were held at Arnia, R S Pura, Bishnah , Akhnoor where a complete bandh was observed and irate people held massive protests against Pakistan and terrorism.
At Akhnoor a massive protest rally was led by local MLA Mohan Lala which was also joined by former MLA Rajeev Sharma who strongly condemned the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam.
The activists of BJP, VHP, respective Beopar Mandals and other socio-political organisations participated in the protests. At Samba BJP vice president and MLA Samba, S S Salathia also participated in the protest.
In Kathua a massive rally by BJP, VHP and leaders of various trade organizations and socio religious organizations was taken out from Mukherjee Chowk to Kali Bari which was led by BJP MLAs including party general secretary and MLA, Dr D K Manyal, MLA Jasrota, Rajiv Jasrotia and MLA Kathua, Bharat Bushan. At Kali Bari the protestors blocked the Jammu -Pathankot National Highway for half an hour. They also torched the effigy of Pakistan.
Total bandh was observed in Udhampur, Ramnagar, Majalta, Rambal, Ghari and Chenani towns today. At Udhampur a massive protest was held at Salathia Chowk which was led by MLA, Pawan Gupta. The protestors torched effigy of Pakistan and demanded tough action against the enemy nation.
At Ramban local MLA led the protest rally while BJP and VHP activists also held the rally which was led by former MLA, Neelam Langeh.
At Kishtwar, MLA Shagun Parihar led the massive protest organised by Sanatan Dharam Sabha. The members of Muslim community expressing solidarity with victims of terrorism also participated in the protest.
Protests were also held in Doda and Bhadarwah towns where the people of both communities observed a total bandh against the killings.
The rally in Reasi was led by MLA, Kuldeep Raj Gupta while in Katra it was led by MLA Baldev Raj Sharma.
A massive rally was taken out in main market Poonch with protestors raising anti Pak slogans.
They condemned the attack and demanded stern action against the perpetrators.

In Gandhi Nagar a protest was led by Ritika Trehan chief spokesperson, BJP Mahila Morcha. Kishtwar Sangathan Jammu (KSJ) held a strong protest against the killings here, today.
Aam Aadmi Party leader, S S Shingari also led a strong protest of his party at Bakshi Nagar against the killings.
Shiv Sena, Bal Thakeray led by its J&K president, Mansih Sahni held an strong protest here against the killings and demanded tough action against terrorism.
Another protest was held by Shiv Sena Shande group at Gumat Bazar under the leadership of Ashwani Gupta in which Government was urged to crush the terrorism with iron hands.
Apni party also held a strong protest here today which was led by its provincial president Manjit Singh who demanded strong action against the terrorism. Apni Party Migrant cell led by senior leader M K Yogi, Congress Migrant Cell led by its chairman H L pandita and general secretary, Chuni Lal Kandi, Anil Bhat and other leaders held a candle light procession in Jagti to protest against the killings demanding tough action against terrorism.
Hindustan Shiv Sena State president, Vikrant Kapoor also led party protest in Jammu and demanded tough action against Pakistan.
BJP senior leader, Rekha Mahajan led a protest of her party activists at Gandhi Nagar today in which the killings of tourists was strongly condemned.
A massive rally was held by Dogra Front and Shiv Sena led by Ashok Gupta president of the organization here, today in which the barbaric act was strongly condemned and irate members of the organisation demanded tough action against Pakistan.
Kashmiri Khatri Hindu Maha Sabha held a protest at Jagti township and took out a massive rally demanding strong action against Pakistan. Led by Ramesh Mahajan the protestors also torched effigy of Pakistan.
ABVP activists also held a strong protest here, today against Pakistan and killing of tourists. The ABVP activists also boycotted classes today in protest against the terrorism and in support of the bandh call.
A massive protest rally was held by Ware House and Nehru Market traders under the leadership of its president, Deepak Gupta in which strong resentment was shown against the killing of tourists. The protestors demanded action against the terrorists, their over ground supporters and Pakistan.
Vice President, district Congress Committee and in charge district Jammu, Rural Hari Singh Chib led a candle march of the party here today to protest against the killings.
Activists of Shurveer Sangathan also held a protest here today and raised slogans against terrorism and Pakistan.
Aam Admi Party (AAP) led by its leaders, Amit Kapoor, Yasir Mattoo, Jayesh Gupta, Sandeep Gupta, Dr Thappa and Amrik Singh and others held a strong protest in front of Jammu Press Club against the killings.
PoJK Intellectuals Forum led by Amrik Singh also held a strong protest here today against the killings and demanded tough action against terrorism and Pakistan.
