Patwari caught taking Rs 50,000 graft for ‘Fard’

JAMMU, Apr 23: Sleuths of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today caught a Patwari of the Revenue Department at Arnia red-handed, while taking Rs 50,000 graft from a villager of the area.
Official sources said that Naveed Ahmed, Patwari, Halqa Kool Kalan (Arnia), district Jammu was arrested on the spot along with the graft money (Rs 50,000) for issuance of Fard and then sent behind the bars.

While narrating the incident the sources further said that Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau received a complaint, alleging therein that public servant namely- Naveed Ahmed, Patwari Halqa, Kool Kalan (Arnia), was demanding illegal gratification for issuance of loan Fard, from the complainant.
The accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 (One lakh) from the complainant for issuance of Loan Fard. After negotiation, the accused agreed to take bribe amount of Rs 50,000 from the complainant as advance and remaining Rs 50,000 on his visit at the site. Since, the complainant didn’t want to pay bribe, he approached Anti Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the accused public servant under law.
On receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted, which confirmed the demand of bribe by the public servant concerned and accordingly, a case FIR No. 04/2025 U/S 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered in Police Station ACB Jammu and investigation taken up.
During investigation, a trap team headed by Gazetted (DySP) rank officer was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and accused public servant was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs 50,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
The accused was arrested on the spot by the ACB team, following due process of law. The bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team. Moreover, search is being conducted in the residential house of the accused in presence of independent witness and Magistrate.
