Ladakh observes Bandh to condemn Pahalgam terror attack

LEH, Apr 23: In a strong display of unity and grief, Ladakh today observed a shutdown to condemn the brutal terrorist attack that took place yesterday in Pahalgam, Srinagar.
In Leh, shutdown was marked by the closure of business establishments for the first half of the day as a sign of collective mourning and protest against the heinous act. The call for the shutdown was supported by various religious and social organizations, including the Ladakh Buddhist Association, Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam, Anjuman Imamia, Christian Association, and the Ladakh Gonpa Association.

Political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Indian National Congress, also joined in condemning the attack, describing it as a grave crime against humanity. Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance have also condemned this attack in the strongest terms.
In the evening, a candlelight march was held in Leh, starting from Leh Gate and concluding at Eco Park. Hundreds of people from all walks of life and diverse communities participated in the silent procession, holding candles to honour the victims and pray for them to rest in peace.
At Eco Park, prominent religious leaders and social activists addressed the gathering. They denounced the terrorist attack as an inhuman and cowardly act that targeted innocent lives. The leaders called on the Government of India to take strong and exemplary action against the perpetrators to ensure justice for the victims and restore public faith in national security.
Meanwhile, a complete bandh was observed in Kargil following a call by Shiekh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi, President of Jamiat ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil, in strong condemnation of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. All business establishments and shops remained shut in a show of solidarity with the victims. The peaceful shutdown garnered widespread public support across the district. Shiekh Nazir appealed for unity against terrorism, stressing, “Such attacks are a threat to humanity and must be condemned by all, regardless of region or religion.” He called upon all peace-loving people and the international community to reject violence and stand for justice.
Jamiat ul Ulama reaffirmed its firm opposition to terrorism and demanded justice for the victims of the Pahalgam attack.
