Maharana Pratap Chowk to Tau Devi Lal Chowk declared no-vending zone in Karnal
In a major step aimed at easing traffic congestion and ensuring clean public spaces, the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) declared the stretch from Maharana Pratap Chowk to Tau Devi Lal Chowk (NH-44) as no-vending zone. Earlier, the MC had made four major roads as no-vending zones, restricting the vendors to set up vends on these roads.
Giving details, MC Commissioner Dr Vaishali Sharma said, “No handcarts or street vendors will be allowed to operate on this road and shopkeepers must not place items beyond their designated boundaries.”
Sharma emphasised that the step was taken in public interest to decongest key routes and facilitate smoother vehicular movement. “No street vendor will be allowed to set up stalls along the footpaths or roadside in this zone. Public convenience and organised city planning are our priorities,” she said. All vendors, shopkeepers and showroom owners along this newly designated no-vending route have already been informed through public announcements under the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign. Meetings with the shopkeepers have also been conducted over the past three days to ensure compliance.
Earlier, the no-vending zones were Maharaja Agrasen Chowk to Shrimad Bhagavad Gita Dwar, Ambedkar Chowk to PWD Rest House and Old Committee Chowk to Ranbir Hooda Chowk (Karna Canal Bridge) and ITI Chowk to Sector 9 Bridge, said the Commissioner. Sharma has directed the Sanitation Department’s zonal in-charges to ensure no illegal vending occurs on these roads or footpaths. If violations are found, the responsible sanitation inspectors and supervisors will be held accountable, she added.
The Municipal Commissioner also warned anyone found violating the no-vending rules would lead to their goods being seized and they would have to face monetary penalties. She urged all citizens to support the corporation’s initiative to keep Karnal clean, beautiful and well-organised.
