Delhi MC enables online birth certificates via DigiLocker

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has officially integrated birth certificates with DigiLocker, offering citizens easier and more secure access to their essential documents. The initiative, a key component of the ‘Digital India’ mission, was rolled out in collaboration with the IT Department and NIC/MCD. The integration is also part of the ‘100 Days Vikshit Delhi Programme’ aimed at accelerating digital governance across the capital.

The integration allows residents to download their birth certificates from DigiLocker at any time and from anywhere, eliminating the need for physical copies and reducing the need for visits to municipal offices. This move marks a significant step in the government’s push toward improving administrative efficiency and citizen convenience.

By making birth certificates available digitally, the MCD is not only ensuring better accessibility but also enhancing transparency. The digital format reduces the risk of documents being lost, tampered with, or duplicated. Moreover, it is expected to expedite processes like school admissions, passport applications, and Aadhaar registration, where birth certificates are often required.

In addition to benefiting citizens, this initiative will also reduce the administrative workload for municipal staff. With direct integration into DigiLocker, the time spent on managing and verifying physical documents will be minimised, streamlining operations for government employees.

This initiative aligns with national digital strategies, contributing to the promotion of a paperless environment and encouraging sustainable practices. The MCD is also planning awareness campaigns to ensure that the public is well-informed about the new digital service and can fully utilise it.
