False alarm: Bomb-like object in Faridkot field turns out to be smoke candle

A panic-like situation gripped the village of Araian Wala Kalan in Faridkot district this evening after a farmer discovered a suspicious bomb-like object while harvesting wheat with a combine harvester. The object, found buried in the field, led to widespread fear among villagers. The farmer immediately informed the police.

SHO Rajesh Kumar of the Sadar police station, along with his team, reached the spot and secured the area. The public was moved to a safe distance, and the object was examined. Initial inspection revealed that the object resembled a military shell or device. The police then contacted military authorities for further verification.

After reviewing the object, it was identified as a smoke candle—a non-lethal military signalling device—not an explosive bomb. However, how the object ended up in the field remains unclear. Inspector Rajesh Kumar stated, “There was a moment of real concern when we received the call. Once the area was secured and the object assessed, we established contact with the military, who confirmed it was a smoke candle.”

The field owner explained that his nephew had been operating the harvester when it struck the heavy object. Initially assumed to be a stone or brick, closer inspection led them to believe it might be a bomb. The police have informed military authorities, who are expected to arrive and either retrieve or safely dispose of the object. The situation is now under control, and no harm has been reported.
