Honeymoon Turns Heartbreak: Newlywed Lt. Vinay Narwal Killed In Pahalgam Attack, Wife’s Farewell Moves Nation: Video

Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, 26, from Haryana’s Karnal, married Himanshi on April 16. The reception was held three days after the wedding, and the couple then left for Kashmir on Monday. Less than a week later, Himanshi was found hugging her husband’s coffin, sobbing inconsolably, but then stood on stage and gave him a final goodbye, shouting ‘Jai Hind’.

A day after reaching Jammu and Kashmir, the couple was enjoying 'bhelpuri' (a snack made of puffed rice) when a terrorist shot Lieutenant Narwal in the head.

Vinay’s body was brought to Delhi in a coffin on Wednesday, and Himanshi stood beside it.

"I pray that his soul rests in peace... We will make him proud in every way," she sobbed.

"It is because of him that the world is still surviving. And we should all be proud of him in every way... in every way," she said, bowing repeatedly before the coffin.

Himanshi then wiped her tears, stood straight before saluting her husband, and then said ‘Jai Hind’ as his colleagues from the Navy and others looked on.

Narwal joined two years ago and was posted in Kochi. He was among 26 people, including an Intelligence Bureau officer, and was killed in the terrorist attack in Baisaran, also known as 'mini Switzerland’.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Security met in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Besides the prime minister, the Cabinet Committee on Security comprises Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Sitharaman is on her way back from the United States after she cut short her official visit. Prime Minister Modi returned early Wednesday from Saudi Arabia. He held a meeting at the airport soon after his arrival where he discussed the J-K terror attack with Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval. Foreign Secretary Vikram Mistry was also part of the meeting.
