As India mourns the death of 26 people in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a high-level security meeting in Delhi this evening.

The meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), scheduled for 6 pm, is likely to discuss the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and formulate India’s response to the attack, the deadliest in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar are part of the CCS. National Security advisor Ajit Doval, along with the cabinet secretary and the defence secretary, will attend the key meeting.

Rajnath Singh has already held a meeting with Doval and Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh. According to reports, the meeting discussed all issues related to the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Amit Shah, who reviewed the situation in Pahalgam earlier in the day, is expected to reach Delhi soon. Shah took an aerial survey of the region as he arrived at the site by helicopter, descending onto the meadow.

Shah was briefed by security officials about the situation and the ongoing operation to track down the terrorists.

"With a heavy heart, paid last respects to the deceased of the Pahalgam terror attack. Bharat will not bend to terror. The culprits of this dastardly terror attack will not be spared," the home minister said in a post on X.

Meanwhile, a team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has reached Pahalgam to support the Jammu and Kashmir Police in probing the attack.

Over two dozen people, mostly tourists, were killed as terrorists opened fire at them on Tuesday near the scenic town in Anantnag district, sending shock waves across the country.

The Resistance Front, a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility of the attack.
