Five-time former champions Mumbai Indians will be eyeing a fourth win on the trot when they take on last season’s finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad in match No. 41 of IPL 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Thanks to a hat-trick of wins, Hardik Pandya’s MI have risen to the sixth position and now need another win to join a trio of teams on 10 points.

With just two wins from 7 matches, SRH find themselves in a precarious position. Despite boasting a formidable batting line-up, inconsistency at the top and a lack of penetration from their bowlers have left them vulnerable. Their struggles have been most evident on slower, turning tracks — including two defeats at home — exposing their over-reliance on flat surfaces.

The latest reminder came in their narrow four-wicket loss to MI at the Wankhede, where the grip and turn of the pitch brought their batting flaws to the fore.

Pat Cummins-led side thrives on batting-friendly pitches, and another such surface could be key to reviving their campaign. Much will depend on their explosive left-handed opening pair, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. Abhishek, who smashed a sensational 141 against Punjab Kings in SRH’s previous home game, will be expected to lead the charge again. Head, meanwhile, has yet to hit top gear and SRH will hope for a statement knock from their Australian star.

A loss here could severely dent SRH’s playoff hopes, and history doesn’t favour them either — they trail 10-14 in the head-to-head against Mumbai Indians.

Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were at their fluent best in that match, scoring unbeaten 76 and 68 respectively, while Tilak Varma continues to be a reliable presence in the middle order. Finisher Naman Dhir has shown promise, and skipper Hardik Pandya adds firepower down the order.

Jasprit Bumrah may not be among the top wicket-takers this season, but his pinpoint control has been a key asset. MI’s tactical use of Bumrah, supported by the pace of Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar with the new ball, could prove tricky for SRH’s top order.
