Delhi Metro passengers: The Janakpuri West-RK Ashram elevated corridor under construction in Phase-4 in Delhi will be something special in terms of height. Now the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has completed the construction of a 50-meter long elevated corridor with a heavy steel span near Pitampura Madhuban Chowk on this corridor, which is the fourth highest point of Delhi Metro and the third highest point of the Janakpuri West-RK Ashram corridor under construction.
A new station is also being built in Pitampura on this corridor, which will be an interchange station with the existing Red Line station. Both these stations will be connected by a 180-meter long foot overbridge (FOB).
The FOB will have five pillars
The new station in Pitampura is being built on the other side (towards Rohini) of the existing station. The construction of the FOB will also start soon. According to DMRC, this FOB will be connected to the platform floor of the current station of the Red Line and the concourse of the new station. The concourse of the new station will be 16.7 meters above the ground. The FOB will have five pillars.
This is the new corridor of the Magenta Line
The under construction Janakpuri West-RK Ashram corridor will be 27.452 km long and is an extension project of the Magenta Line (Botanical Garden-Janakpuri West). Therefore, this new corridor of the Magenta Line is passing over the current Red Line (Rithala-Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda Ghaziabad) in Pitampura.
It was built with a steel span weighing 340 metric tons at a height of 22.54 meters from the ground. The width of this steel span is 12 meters. It was built in three parts with the help of a crane without stopping the metro operations on the Red Line.
It was joined together through nut bolts
First of all, the 12 meter long segment in the middle of this span was mounted on the pillar. Its weight is 70 metric tons. After this, the corridor was constructed from two segments of 19-19 meters length. The weight of both these steel segments is 127-127 metric tons. These three segments have been connected with each other using 20 thousand nut bolts. The station built at this place will have the facility of three gates, five lifts and 14 escalators.
