The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) recently completed its 22nd year of its services on December 24, 2024. It’s a long journey for any Metro in India. The DMRC was inaugurated on December 24, 2002 under the launch of TS-01 train.
Opening was done by the then Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, for the first line of Kashmiri Gate to Seelampur. He was involved and associated with the project. He purchased the first ticket for the Delhi Metro which made him the first passenger on its journey.

The TS-01 train, which worked on DMRC’s operations, became a symbol of progress. It was originally started as a 4-coach train in 2002 and later upgraded to 6 coaches in 2014. It was also expanded to 8 coaches in 2023 to meet increasing passenger demand. In its 20 years long journey, TS-01 has passed 27 lakh kilometers and transported over 5.4 crore passengers.
Delhi Metro was a first of its kind modern urban transportation in India. Over the past 22 years, DMRC is considered now as one of the most reliable and efficient metro systems globally. It also contributed to the development of Delhi NCR and made travel easy for the daily commuters.
