Delhi HC To Rule On CLAT UG 2025 Petition Over Exam Errors Today
CLAT Delhi High Court Hearing: The Delhi High Court is set to announce its verdict on Wednesday on a series of petitions alleging discrepancies in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) UG 2025 questionnaire. The verdict will be pronounced by a bench of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela at 2:30 pm today, April 23. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the entrance test for undergraduate and postgraduate law courses in national law universities in India.
Case Background and Hearings
The petitions were filled by candidates who had written the CLAT UG 2025 examination in December 2024, alleging some of the questions of the exam to be wrong. The court concluded hearing on April 9, when arguments were listened to by the lawyers of petitioners and the representatives of Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs). After the hearing, the court reserved its order, according to news agency PTI.
Pending Petitions for CLAT PG-2025
While the court has yet to rule on the petitions challenging certain questions in the CLAT PG-2025, these are likely to be dealt with separately in due course.
Mistakes in the exam paper have raised several petitions, which were initially submitted to several high courts. On February 6, all these petitions were transferred by the Supreme Court to the Delhi High Court for a "consistent adjudication" of the matter.
Role of Delhi High Court in the Matter
In its earlier hearings, the Delhi High Court had raised concerns over the "suspense and anxiety" caused to aspirants because of the ongoing case. The court laid stress on it wanting to clear the case early so that the results may be declared in time. Although the petitions for the undergraduate exam were given priority, petitions for the postgraduate exam will have to be addressed separately.
A few students pushed for the case to be shifted to the Delhi High Court, bringing up the court's positive verdict in favor of petitioners in another such case, wherein two questions of the CLAT UG-2025 test were deemed incorrect, and the Consortium was compelled to revise their results.
Earlier Verdicts on CLAT UG-2025 Mistakes
On December 20, 2024, a single judge bench of Delhi High Court instructed the Consortium to revise the CLAT-UG 2025 results due to errors in two questions in the answer key released on December 7, 2024. The court came to the conclusion after hearing a petition filed by a CLAT aspirant, claiming the answers to a few questions were wrong.
The court found the errors "demonstrably clear" and declared that it would be unfair to ignore them. The petitioner's plea on other questions was, however, dismissed. The Consortium also moved an appeal, but on December 24, 2024, a division bench upheld the single judge's order and permitted the results to be announced on the basis of the revised answer key.
