India’s most profitable film, earned 60 times its budget, lead actress quit acting, her name is…
To measure a film’s success, many focus on how much it earned. Even when it comes to box office numbers, opinions differ- some focus on total revenue, while others prioritise profitability. If we go by the latter, the most successful Indian film is the one that ended up making 6000% profit with a 16-year-old in the lead.
The 2017 Advait Chandan film Secret Superstar is considered one of the most profitable Indian film ever made. Produced by Aamir Khan, it was made on a budget of Rs 15 core and did a great business upon its release, achieving a highly impressive box office collection of Rs 965 crore worldwide. The slice-of-life drama earned 60 times more than its original investment, beating Jai Santoshi Maa’s record by a huge margin.
If we go by the entertainment tracking portals, Secret Superstar was able to beat the highest-grossing films like Stree 2 ( Rs 857 crore), PK ( Rs 769 crore), Gadar 2 ( Rs 691 crore), and Baahubali: The Beginning ( Rs 617 crore) with its exceptional earnings.

Released on October 19, 2017, Secret Superstar became the highest-grossing film of that year. The film revolves around a teenage girl with a dream to become a singer, uploading videos on YouTube while hiding her identity behind a burqa. This heartwarming story earned the movie numerous prestigious awards.
Zaira Wasim, Aamir Khan, Mehar Vij, and Raj Arjun were seen in the lead roles in this film. To portray the character of a talented teenage girl Insia, Zaira dedicated herself to learning the guitar. She received widespread appreciation for her performance, but left acting soon after, due to conflict with her religious beliefs and faith.
