Good News: Pune's Sinhagad Road Flyover To Open To Public In 8–10 Days
Punekars have been eagerly waiting for the opening of the city’s longest flyover, stretching 2.3 km from Vitthalwadi to Funtime Theatre on Sinhagad Road.
While multiple local websites have reported that the flyover will open on April 27, The Free Press Journal has reliably learnt that it will take at least 8–10 days for the work to be completed and opened to the public.
Yuvraj Deshmukh, head of PMC's projects department, told FPJ, "The inauguration of the flyover is pushed a bit because the finishing work is still pending. The preparation for the inauguration is underway. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be invited to cut the ribbons. The work will get completed in 8–10 days. The date has not yet been decided. The remaining work includes the erection of span/girder and painting."
Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale recently inspected the flyover and directed that all remaining work be completed within eight days.
NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule on Sunday took to X (formerly Twitter) and urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to open the flyover without waiting for a formal ceremony.
"The flyover from Vitthalwadi to Funtime Theatre on Sinhagad Road is ready. Considering the traffic congestion on this route, if this flyover is opened, it will benefit the citizens. I request the PMC to please open this road for the use of the citizens without waiting for the formal inauguration. So it will be a great help in relieving the traffic congestion," she wrote.
Once the flyover opens, the commuters heading towards Katraj-Dehu Road Bypass, Wadgaon Budruk and Khadakwasla from Rajaram Bridge Chowk will no longer have to be stuck in traffic.
