Man suffers bullet injury as land dispute turns violent

A land dispute at Taraf Kotli village in the jurisdiction of the Sidhwan Bet police station turned violent when shots were fired, injuring one person.

Gurpreet Singh, a friend of NRI Mandeep Singh, was hit by a bullet that passed through his abdomen. The injured man was rushed to a hospital here where his condition was stated to be critical. The incident occurred on Tuesday when Mandeep and his associates reached the village to harvest wheat on a 31-acre land.

As per information, the dispute began in 2023 when Mandeep found that some individuals had sold his land to Gagandeep Singh Brar, a city resident, allegedly using forged documents. Mandeep filed a case against the suspects, leading to an ongoing dispute between the two parties.

On Tuesday, Mandeep and his companions, including Gurpreet, were harvesting wheat crop when shots were allegedly fired by the opposing group. The police were informed and a probe was launched. The injured person was first taken to a local hospital and later referred to a Ludhiana hospital due to the severity of his condition.

The police are expected to take further action after recording the statement of the injured. The dispute has been ongoing, with both parties claiming ownership of the land.

Earlier, Gagandeep had also held a press conference in Ludhiana, accusing the police of misconduct and claiming that he was prevented from harvesting the crop, despite having legitimate documentation.

Incharge, Giddarwindi police post, ASI Sukhwinder Singh, said a case of attempt to murder was registered against Gagandeep and six other identified persons and raids were on to nab them.
