Man refuses to give ‘bidi’ to two, stabbed to death

A 21-year-old man was first assaulted and then stabbed to death while two more people sustained injuries when the former refused to give a ‘bidi’ (a type of cheap cigarette) to the accused in southeast Delhi’s Pul Prahaladpur area.

The deceased has been identified as Sohaib, a resident of Lal Kaun in Pul Prahladpur. Those who suffered injuries were Sohaib’s brother Mohsin, whose condition is said to be critical, while their friend Akram had a stab wound on the left hand.

Sharing details, DCP (southeast) RK Singh said a PCR call was received in the intervening night of April 21 and 22 regarding a stabbing incident at J Block, Prem Nagar, near Public Toilet Pul Prahladpur. After getting information, the police immediately reached the spot.

“During enquiry, it was found that a quarrel took place between neighbours. The PCR caller, Shehzad, informed that the injured has been shifted to ESI Hospital, Okhla,” the DCP said.

The police recorded the statement of Sohaib’s mother, who is also an eyewitness. In her statement, the woman stated that she was present at her home about 11 pm on April 21 when her younger son Sohaib returned home and told her that two people – Munna and Sunny – slapped him in the nearby park when he refused to give them “bidi”.

Sabukta (55), along with her both sons Sohaib and Mosin, went to Munna’s house and questioned him about slapping her son.

“Munna became furious and Sunny and Imtiyaz also joined him. During arguments, Munna and Imtiyaz stabbed Sohaib, Mosin and Akram multiple times. Sohaib sustained serious injuries and fell on the road,” the DCP said.

Sahajad, brother of Sohaib, called the PCR and all injured were shifted to ESI Hospital, where Sohaib was declared dead on arrival. Mosin was later shifted to SJH Hospital owing to his critical condition.

Based on the statement, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in this regard. All three accused – Firoz, alias Munna, Imtiyaz and Saudagar Khan, alias Sunny, – were arrested.

The police also recovered a blood stained knife used in the crime from their possession.
