World Earth Day observed in schools, colleges across region
Functions were organised in various educational institutions of the district on Tuesday to mark the World Earth Day.
Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Sarhali, organised a seminar on changing environment to coincide with the 55th establishment day of the college and called upon students to be aware of the climatic changes. Principal Dr Jasbir Singh and college teacher Manpreet Kaur delivered their messages on the occasion.
The local Wisdom School of Academics and Sports marked Earth Day with vibrant activities aimed at fostering environmental awareness among students. There was inter-house poster-making competition, where students gave powerful messages on conservation through art. Kindergarten children brought smiles with sapling plantation, eco-themed colouring and storytelling sessions. Principal Gurprit Johal, Director Amrit Khera and Administrator Shweta Sehgal urged students to adopt eco-friendly habits.
The students of the local Mamta Niketan delivered speeches on pollution and ways to protect the earth, accompanied by theme-based poems. A choreography on tree conservation and a group song titled ‘Save Trees’ were performed, highlighting the need for green efforts. Poster-making and slogan-writing competitions were also organised. Principal Gurcharan Kaur, along with teachers and students, planted saplings around the campus to support the cause.
Sri Guru Harkrishan Senior Secondary Public School, Chabal, celebrated World Earth Day to promote environmental consciousness among students. Gurpreet, a teacher of the school, addressed the students, sharing valuable insights on global warming and the urgent need to protect our planet. The youngest learners showcased their creativity through a chart-making activity, highlighting the dangers of pollution and environmental degradation.
Jaspal Kaur Sidhu, principal of Guru Nanak Dev Academy, Noordi road, Tarn Taran, organised a march on the day and urged students to prefer walking rather than using fuel-consuming vehicles to maintain the environment.
Amritsar
