Accused dies while attempting to flee police custody
A wanted accused, who was being brought by Jammu police after being arrested from Amritsar in Punjab, died of injuries while attempting to flee from police custody.
In an official statement by Jammu police, it was informed that on Monday, a police party of Jammu was sent to Baba Bakala in Amritsar to arrest two wanted persons with the help of Punjab Police.
The two included Mushtaq Ali alias Bacchu Don, a resident of Kikri Morh, Bari Brahmana, and one more accused wanted in different cases. The statement read that while returning to Jammu from Punjab, the accused insisted on halting the vehicle to relieve themselves. “When the accused were brought down from the vehicle, they suddenly attacked the police personnel and tried to snatch their weapons and escape from police custody. However, the police party handled the situation but one accused, namely Mushtaq Ali, while trying to escape fell on the road and was grievously injured. Four police personnel also got minor injuries during this incident,” the statement read.
It further stated that the injured Mushtaq Ali was immediately rushed to GMC Jammu for treatment, where the doctors declared him dead. “All required legal proceedings have been accordingly initiated,” the police stated.
In this connection, an FIR under relevant Sections has been registered at Bishnah police station and further investigation is on.
