Panjab University to rename Arts Block 3 after former PM Manmohan Singh
The Panjab University will rename the Arts Block–3 as “Dr Manmohan Singh Hall”, and will also host the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in the honour of the university’s alumnus and the former Indian Prime Minister on April 25.
Author Daman Singh, daughter of former PM, will deliver the Panjab University Colloquium lecture on the topic “Dr Manmohan Singh: The Quintessential Scholar” on the occassion. Daman is the author of Strictly Personal: Manmohan & Gursharan, a biographical portrait of her parents that explores their shared journey through life, politics and public service.
The PU Colloquium will be presided over by Vice-Chancellor and Patron of the Colloquium Series Renu Vig.
The Arts Block 3 houses the Department of Economics, where Dr Manomahn Singh both studied and taught. The former Prime Minister pursued Masters in Economics from 1952 to 1954 and served as a faculty member from 1957 to 1959. He returned to the university in 1963 as a professor and served until 1966.
