'Weakest CSK Team Ever' Suresh Raina Slams Chennai's Management After Their Poor Show In IPL 2025

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a crushing defeat on Sunday against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. While batting first, CSK managed to score only 176/5 in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians chased down the target with 26 balls remaining.

This came as CSK's sixth defeat of the season in eight matches so far in the IPL 2025 season. With 4 points from 8 matches, CSK are placed at the bottom of the points table and are likely out of the playoffs race.

Suresh Raina Slams CSK Management 

During the match between MI and CSK, former CSK player Suresh Raina went hard on the management. He criticised the CSK management for not going for players like Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul in the auction despite having a good amount of purse.

“Mujhe lagta hai kahin na kahin inse (CSK) auction acha nahi hua hai. Auction main itne talented players, itne youngsters the. Kaha hai woh players? Aap itna paisa leke jaate ho auction ke liye. Aapne Rishabh Pant ko chhoda, Shreyas Iyer ko chhoda, KL Rahul ko chhoda. CSK team ko kabhi aise nahi dekha struggle karte hue" (I think somewhere, the coach and the management did not get the auction right. There were so many talented players in the auction, so many youngsters. Where are they? You went to the auction with so much money, but you didn't go for Iyer, Rahul, or Pant. When you see other teams, they are playing such attacking cricket, I have never seen CSK struggle so much," said Suresh Raina while speaking on Star Sports.

Harbhajan Singh Questions CSK Scouts

Former CSK spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was also present on the commentary panel, raised questions on the CSK scouts and said, “CSK is a very big team. When they went to the auction, they had the option to take those players. Even among the youngsters, they did not see any such youngster who could play a game-changing innings. Those who hunt their talent pool should also ask the child whether they had given us information due to which we selected these people.”

During commentary, Harbhajan asked Raina, "Is this the weakest CSK team ever?" To which Raina said, "Yes, definitely."

CSK will play their next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 25th April at their home ground, Chepauk. CSK has to win all their remaining matches with a good net run rate to keep their hopes alive for the playoffs.
