Muktsar double murder case: Another accused held; 2 sent to three-day police custody
After the prime accused in the murder of a father-son duo at Abul Khurana village, Davinder Singh alias Rana, the police arrested another suspect Karanpal Singh of Gurusar Jodha village last night. Karanpal was previously unidentified in the FIR.
Both accused were produced before a court in Malout today, which remanded them to three-day police custody. Earlier, the court had sent Rana to police custody on Monday for one day.
Vinay Partap Brar and his son Surya Partap Brar were shot dead while returning from their fields. Vinay was a nephew of Congress leader and former MLA Sardulgarh Ajit Inder Singh Mofar.
A case was registered on the complaint of Vinay’s daughter, Shazia Partap Brar. Four persons — Davinder Singh alias Rana; senior Congress leader and Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa’s father-in-law, Nachattarpal Singh; his brother-in-law, Ravinder Singh alias Bubby, all residents of Abul Khurana village; and an unidentified person — were named in the FIR on Sunday.
Both Nachattar and his son are currently on the run. Notably, Nachattar served as the Congress’ Muktsar district president about 30 years ago.
According to the FIR, Nachattar and his son Bubby were among the conspirators. Rana allegedly fired the bullets, while the unidentified person — now identified as Karanpal — allegedly struck Vinay with a baseball bat, leading to the murders.
Muktsar SSP Akhil Chaudhary has already formed a special investigation team (SIT) led by Muktsar SP (D) Manmeet Singh in the case.
