Meet woman who broke a 400-year-old curse of the royal family of…., her name is….
Nestled within the intricately designed Indo-Saracenic Amba Vilas Palace lies a 400-year-old mystery, steeped in legend and rich history. According to folklore, Srirangaraya, the chieftain of Srirangapatna, entrusted his wife Alamelamma with the weighty responsibility of governing the kingdom due to ill health. As fate would have it, the ambitious Wadiyar King sought to annex Srirangapatna, forcing Alamelamma to flee towards Malinga, known today as Talakadu. In her desperation, she cast a powerful curse upon the river, the land of Talakadu and the Wadiyar dynasty. She declared that the once-fertile land would turn sandy and desolate, and that the illustrious Wadiyar dynasty would face the same fate, destined to remain without heirs.
The Wadiyar dynasty has narrowly avoided the extinction of its lineage by adopting its current King. A glimmer of hope has emerged in the form of Trishika Kumari Devi, the princess of the Dungarpur royal family, who has purportedly lifted this long-standing curse.
The current Maharaja of Mysore, Yaduveer Wadiyar, and Trishika Kumari Devi have been blessed with the birth of their two sons, symbolising the potential end of a quadricentennial predicament that haunted their lineage.
Curses in royal families have long been a source of intrigue and superstition. While the 21st century may question the validity of such beliefs; numerous royal households have grappled with sinister proclamations throughout history. Take, for example, the infamous and reportedly haunted Bhangarh Fort, a site of ongoing speculation and exploration by paranormal experts, said to be cursed by a jilted Tantrik whose wrath lingers in the air.
One of the most storied royal families, the rulers of Gwalior, are believed to be burdened by the curse of a saint. Infuriated by the queen’s perceived wastefulness in discarding half of a roti given by him, the saint vowed that the royal lineage would never see a king live beyond 55 years of age, nor would any king be blessed with more than one son. Remarkably, the current Maharaja has defied the first part of this curse, becoming the longest-living king in Gwalior’s history. However, the latter still holds true, for he has only one son, casting a shadow of uncertainty on the dynasty’s future.
