Mira-Bhayandar Crime: 55-Yr-Old Truck Driver Arrested In Dharavi After 21 Years For Raping Stepdaughter, Killing Wife In 2004 Virar Case

Mira-Bhayandar: Nearly 21 years after he fled after sexually assaulting his teenage step daughter and brutally murdered his wife, the accused (now aged 55 years) was finally arrested by the crime branch unit (Zone II) attached to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police on Monday (21, April).

The incident dates back to 20, April, 2004 when the accused Sajid Ali Shaikh- truck driver brutally murdered his wife by brutally assaulting her and banging her head to the floor. The woman had confronted Sajid (her second husband) after learning that he sexually assaulted her daughter which led to the attack at their tenement in Virar.

The girl was also impregnated by Sajid who was her step-father. Based on the complaint filed by the traumatised girl, an offence under sections 302(murder), 376(rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC was registered at the Virar police station against Sajid Ali who had remained absconding despite several attempts to nab him.

While investigating this cold case (an unsolved criminal case that has been stopped being actively pursued due to lack of leads), the crime branch unit led by police inspector- Sameer Ahirrao learnt about a Dharavi resident identified as-Parvez alias Idli whose appearance relatively matched the 21-year-old photograph of the fugitive.

Special squads were formed which fanned the sprawling Dharavi area and nabbed Idli from Chamda Bazaar on Monday. Idli turned out to be Sajid who in an attempt to evade the police dragnet had been changing his locations by driving trucks in various cities of Hyderabad and Gujarat before moving to Dharavi and living in a slum cluster near Jama Masjid by assuming the fake identity. His custody was handed over to the Virar police for further investigations.
