Meet actress who was once asked by Sanjay Leela Bhansali to quit acting, her name is…, debut film was..
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of the ace directors in the industry. Over the years, he has delivered several superhit films, and the most recent was his venture into the Netflix series Heeramandi. The series was loved by millions of fans, and despite being released a year ago, it is still considered one of SLB’s most loved works. The director is known to be one of the most vocal personalities in the industry. However, did you know that once SLB asked Ameesha Patel to quit Bollywood? Yes, you read that right!
In an earlier interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ameesha opened up about the matter when she revealed that the filmmaker believed she had gained massive success with her first two films—something many other actresses don’t achieve—and that she should consider retirement.
She shared, “Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, after watching Gadar, wrote a really beautiful, complimentary letter to me. And when I had a meeting with him, he said, ‘Ameesha, you should retire now.’ I said, ‘Why?’ He said, ‘Because you’ve already achieved in two films what most people don’t achieve in their entire career.’”
She further added, “Once in a lifetime, a Mughal-e-Azam, a Mother India, a Pakeezah, a Sholay gets made. You had it in your second film. So what’s next?’ I didn’t understand it at that time because I was a kid, so new to the film world.”
Ameesha is one of the known figures of Bollywood. She made her debut with Hrithik Roshan in the film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai. The movie was a huge hit. Her next film, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha with Sunny Deol, turned out to be a blockbuster. She was last seen in Gadar 2—the film became a huge box office success.
