Mumbai: A disturbing video that has gone viral on social media shows an elderly woman being struck by a falling metal barricade placed for ongoing roadwork in Mumbai’s Andheri West area. The clip, reportedly sourced from CCTV footage on Marve Road, captures the moment the woman was injured while walking near a dug-up section of the road during gusty weather.
Viral Video Shows Metal Barricade Falling On Elderly Woman
In the video, the woman can be seen walking along the roadside amid strong winds. Suddenly, two metal barricades collapse, with one landing directly on her leg. The impact causes her to fall to the ground, visibly injured and unable to stand.
Passersby quickly rush to help, lifting the heavy barricade and offering assistance to the woman, who remains seated on the road as a small crowd gathers. Though the exact extent of her injuries remains unconfirmed, it is alleged that she suffered a serious injury and required major surgery.
The video was first posted on X (formerly Twitter) by a user with the handle SaferRoadsSquad. In the post, the user tagged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and its roads department, urging them to ensure safer barricading at roadwork sites. The post read, “Recent incident in Andheri-W: Senior citizen injured by falling barricades, needed major surgery. @mybmc @mybmcRoads Ensure proper barricading on Marve Rd to protect pedestrians from dug-up roads & also vehicles. Safety first!”
BMC's Infra Department Responds To The Viral Video Post
In response, BMC’s Infra department acknowledged the post, replying, “Please share the exact location for us to help you better.” However, no official statement has been released by the civic body and there is still no confirmed update on the woman’s condition or the medical treatment she received.
There is no confirmed information on the exact date and time of the incident. However, looking at the gusty winds and dusty climate in the video, it is speculated that the video might have been captured around April 4, 2025.
Mumbai Experienced Strong Winds & Thunderstorm Earlier This Month
Mumbai and the larger Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) experienced sudden weather changes, including gusty winds and thunderstorms on April 4. The same weather caused disruption on the Central Railway line, particularly on the Kalyan-Kasara route, when a foreign object became entangled in the overhead wires between Atgaon and Thansit stations. Train services, both local and long-distance, were briefly affected before normal operations resumed.
