IPL 2025: Shubman Gill writes HISTORY, becomes first batter fastest player in the world to…
New Delhi: Shubman Gill delivered a memorable performance for the Gujarat Titans against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on April 21st, 2025. Ajinkya Rahane, winning the toss for KKR, elected to field first in this crucial IPL match.
Gill and Sudharshan’s strong batting performance continued, as they achieved another century partnership, totaling 112 runs. This is their sixth such partnership exceeding 100 runs, tying them for the third-most in IPL history. Sudharshan’s 52 runs off 36 balls also earned him the leading run-scorer title (Orange Cap).
The Titans amassed a substantial total of 198 runs, fueled by Gill’s rapid 90 off 55 balls and Buttler’s quickfire 41 from 23 deliveries.
Shubman Gill amassed 3500 runs throughout his IPL career. His IPL journey began with KKR in 2018, where he scored 1417 runs across 58 matches. Since joining Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2022, the 25-year-old has accumulated 2104 runs and captained the team since 2024.
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill is the youngest player in Indian Premier League history to reach 3500 runs, accomplishing this milestone at age 25. This achievement is unprecedented; no other IPL player had accumulated 3000 runs before their 26th birthday, with Rishabh Pant holding the previous best record.
Virat Kohli previously held the record for the youngest player to achieve this milestone, accomplishing it at 27 years and 171 days in 2016. Gill has since surpassed this, achieving the feat at a younger age of 25 years and 225 days. Sanju Samson holds the third youngest record at 27 years and 197 days.
At 25, Gill holds the IPL record for most centuries, having scored four. Only three other players—Samson, Jaiswal, and Warner—have achieved multiple centuries before turning 26, each with two.
In the IPL, Shubman has achieved 27 scores of 50 or more runs, a record unmatched by any other player of his age. Rohit Sharma is a distant second with 19 such scores. Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer each have 16 scores of 50 or more runs by the age of 25.
