On Earth Day, celebs underline the need for sustainable ways to save the environment
From no use of plastic to home fertiliser to planting greens, celebrities have their own special ways to contribute towards the environment. Looking at a future that is both sustainable and suitable, on Earth Day they talk about what can be done to save the planet
Ban plastic
Anupama Solanki

I have five-six used phones that are not working and I am going to recycle them this time on Earth Day. In our housing society, we are collecting wet and dry waste separately, so it helps Mumbai BMC. However, there is still no solution for plastic. I think the government should ban plastic items and create some other options.
Green thumb
Gulfam Khan Husaain
I love plants, I propagate them and if I find a plant someone has discarded because it has wilted, I get it home and try to revive it. I’m very conscious about wet and dry garbage segregation, I avoid plastic bags as much as I can and recycle food waste as a fertiliser by making compost out of it. Being a plant-lover is not sufficient, it is important to teach children too. They are good listeners, fabulous learners and curious. So, you can teach them how to plant different seeds and make it like a fun project.
Go for bamboo bags
Muskaan Agarwal

I don’t use plastic items at all. Even if I have a party at my place, I use disposable cups or plates, which are eco-friendly. One gets garbage bags for wet and dry waste. I use tea dust as fertiliser for my plants. While grocery shopping, I use only cloth bags. I believe there should be a total ban on plastic bags, rather bamboo should be preferred. The government should make bamboo bags affordable for vegetable vendors. These little things can make a big change. Plastic items are really harmful for Mother Earth.
Green fertiliser
Shivangi Verma
I really don’t like using plastic bags. Instead, I opt for cloth bags whenever I go shopping. Plus, I’ve found a great way to handle kitchen waste—I use it as fertiliser for plants. This helps us avoid harmful pesticides and gives the plants valuable nutrients, making them healthier overall.
Plant a tree
Neel Samarthh
There’s a lot of gratitude that I have for Mother Earth. We have a lot of plants at home, though I don’t have a balcony! Whenever, wherever, we can, we should encourage people to go for plants. Recycling water is a great idea. We should not be wasting too much water and learn how we can conserve it. I don’t use plastic bags at all. I think on our birthdays, we should plant a tree and it’s a sweet message we should give to everyone!
Small actions
Chitra Vakil Sharma
For me, making sure the Earth stays happy isn’t just about doing major stuff; it’s those small actions that really count. Things like remembering to turn off the tap, planting trees and looking after the ones already growing. These might seem small, but they add up and make a big difference in keeping our planet healthy
