Vigilance arrests ATP, architect taking Rs 50,000 bribe
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Monday apprehended Raj Kumar, Assistant Town Planner (ATP), Municipal Corporation, Phagwara, and Rajesh Kumar, a private architect for accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
Disclosing this here, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the accused have been arrested on a complaint lodged by a resident of Phagwara.
He further added that the complainant had approached the VB and alleged that the architect had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,50,000 for getting approval of the map plan for his house from the Town Planner but the deal was struck at Rs 50,000.
The spokesperson said after a preliminary verification of this complaint, a VB team from the Jalandhar range laid a trap during which the architect and ATP were arrested, receiving the bribe of Rs 50,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both accused at VB police station, Jalandhar range. They would be produced before the court tomorrow and further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
