Open bus for giving tour of Ambala Cantonment to be introduced: Vij
Aiming to develop Ambala Cantonment as a tourist destination, Haryana Transport, Labour and Energy Minister Anil Vij has planned to introduce an open bus to give a tour of important locations in the area.
Speaking to The Tribune Anil Vij said, “A Shaheed Smarak is being built in Ambala Cantonment to commemorate the unsung heroes of 1857 revolt. The Shaheed Smarak project is in its final phase, while a science museum will also come up here.”
“To make sure that the people, who visit museums, also get to know about other important locations and projects. It has been decided to introduce an open bus in Ambala Cantonment to give a tour of the city,” he said.
The minister said earlier, Netaji Subhash Park was built. A large number of people turn up daily to spend time with their families there, he added. A statue of Subhash Chandra Bose was installed in the park, while a statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh was installed at the SDM Complex, he said. A statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj would be installed in the Sadar Bazar for which funds had been provided, he said.
“Besides these locations, some other major development projects and historic locations will also be included in the bus tour. There is a plan to halt the bus for at least two hours near the main market of Ambala Cantonment to give an opportunity to the people to explore local markets. The objective behind the project is to make tourists aware of the history and development projects of Ambala. It will also help local traders and boost economic activities,” he added.
The Cabinet Minister directed the General Manager, Haryana Roadways, to prepare a project report for starting the open bus service.
The minister further said that it had been decided to introduce five more electric buses in Ambala. “Earlier five buses were introduced. Now, the number of electric buses will increase to 10. Soon a charging station will also be established at the Ambala Cantonment bus stand to charge buses. Directions have been issued to the Ambala Sadar Municipal Council to construct new bus queue shelters in the city for the convenience of passengers. Officials have identified 27 points where bus queue shelters will be constructed,” minister Anil Vij said.
