National Public Relations Day: Expert stresses ethical use of AI

The department of journalism and mass communication at Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, on Monday celebrated National Public Relations Day with insightful discussions on the evolving landscape of PR in the digital age. The event was themed “Trust, Transparency, and Technology: The New Age of Public Relations”.

Head of Department Harish Kumar emphasised the evolving role of PR in the digital age, stressing the importance of trust, transparency, and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.

“PR professionals craft narratives, maintain transparency and ensure alignment between an organisation’s values and public image. The need for PR in every department and institution is to build image and reputation,” Kumar said.

Deputy Director (Public Relations) Dr Naveen Kumar highlighted the role of PR in managing crises and combating misinformation.

He stressed the importance of loyalty and ethical use of AI tools in communication strategies. Dr Yogesh Kumar, a senior PR professional and an alumnus of the department, spoke on the importance of work-life balance in the field, and advocated for clearly defined roles and responsibilities within PR teams. The academic segment of the event included a presentation by research scholar Kuldeep Kumar, who traced the historical development of PR across government, public and private sectors. He highlighted the enduring importance of truth in building lasting relationships.

The programme was anchored by research scholar Priya, who delved into the basics of public relations.

The event was attended by faculty members, students, research scholars, and department alumnus and journalist Rohit Dagar.
