Meet Bushra Bano, was once asst professor in Saudi Arabia, cleared UPSC exam twice while raising two children, now she is IPS

Success Story: It is often said that behind every successful man stands a woman who is his companion and partner, but in the case of Bushara Bano, the opposite happened. Her husband did not hesitate to make sacrifices for her dreams, and today Bushara is an IPS officer. After leaving her job as an assistant professor, raising two children and ignoring societal judgments, the way she achieved success is a testament to her resilience. This is the story of a woman who changed her fate through her courage. An example that gives voice and strength to every girl who compromises with life, considering her dreams incomplete after becoming a mother.

When Bushra decided to touch the sky after coming out of the narrow lanes of Kannauj, people said, “Now you have become a mother, dreams get left behind.” But she did not give up. Bushra Bano left her job as an assistant professor at a university in Saudi Arabia and returned to India with her husband. The reason? An unfinished dream — UPSC. It is often said that behind every successful husband is a hand of his wife, but for Bushra, this saying was reversed. Her husband also left his job and returned to India in 2016 for the sake of his partner’s dreams.

In 2016, both of them moved to a small town. Caring for a child, pressure of studies, expectations of society — everything was happening simultaneously as by then Bushra had also become a mother.

In the year 2018, when Bushra was about to become a mother for the second time, people said, “Now it’s absolutely impossible.” But that same year, she cleared the UPSC CSE for the first time with AIR 277. A mother of two, took a break from her career, had success in the UPSC exam once, but her determination was still strong. Bushra Bano studied again and took the civil services exam once more. This time, she cleared UPSC again with AIR 234. Today, she is an IPS officer.
