Sai Sudharsan Takes 'Top Spot' In IPL 2025 - Details Inside

The 39th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is taking place at Eden Gardens between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans. After winning the toss, KKR opted to bowl first. Gujarat opener Sai Sudharsan made full use of the opportunity, playing a brilliant knock that not only gave his team a strong start but also earned him the Orange Cap.

Sai Sudharsan Takes Orange Cap Lead

Before the match began, Sudharsan was second in the Orange Cap race with 365 runs from 7 matches, just behind Nicholas Pooran of Lucknow Super Giants, who had 368. With just 4 runs in today's match, Sudharsan surpassed Pooran and took the top spot. He went on to score a composed 52 off 36 balls before being dismissed by Andre Russell.

The Gujarat Titans' batter is in sensational form this season, now sitting at 417 runs in 8 matches. His strike rate stands at 152.75 with an average of 59.57. If he continues this momentum, Sudharsan looks well on course to secure the Orange Cap for the season.

GT openers set tone for massive total

Sai Sudharsan and captain Shubman Gill opened the innings and stitched together a solid 114-run partnership in just 12.2 overs. Sudharsan was eventually dismissed, but Gill continued to keep the scoreboard ticking for Gujarat.

Captain Gill, facing his former team, unleashed a brutal assault on KKR bowlers, hammering 90 runs with class and aggression. His explosive knock helped Gujarat Titans post a formidable total of 198/3, setting KKR a steep target of 199.

Sudharsan, after the end GT's innings, said: "At the start of the game, the pitch was really slow. Found it difficult in the powerplay. After that, we got the speed of the wicket. Me and Shuby (Gill) had great communication, we tried to make use of the bad ball they gave us and tried to take the game deep. Have been enjoying the company with Shuby. His experience is helping me."
