Mardaani, Kahaani And More; Female-Centric Franchises That Have Left A Mark

Rani Mukerji starrer Mardaani 3's first look was unveiled on Monday. In Bollywood, we have many male-centric franchise movies, but when it comes to female-centric franchise films, there are very less. However, from Rani Mukerji's Mardaani to Vidya Balan starrer Kahaani, there are a few female-centric franchises that have left a strong mark.

Check out the list below...

Mardaani

Mardaani was released in 2014, and Rani Mukerji's portrayal of fierce cop, Shivani Shivaji Roy, was loved by one and all. The movie was made into a franchise, and while Mardaani 2 was released in 2019, Mardaani 3 is all set to release in February 2026.

Kahaani

Vidya Balan starrer Kahaani changed the game for female-centric movies in Bollywood. The movie, which was directed by Sujoy Ghosh, is undoubtedly one of the best suspense-thrillers made in Hindi cinema. The first instalment was released in 2012, and Kahaani 2 hit the big screens in 2016. While the sequel didn't leave a strong mark at the box office, it was appreciated by the critics.

Hate Story

Not many filmmakers would think of turning a female-centric erotic thriller into a franchise. But the makers of Hate Story did that. Hate Story (Paoli Dam), Hate Story 2 (Surveen Chawla), and Hate Story 4 (Urvashi Rautela), all of them were female-centric movies. Just Hate Story 3 was all about Karan Singh Grover's character.

Haseen Dilruba

Taapsee Pannu starrer Haseen Dilruba surprised one and all with its storyline. The makers converted it into a franchise and took the story forward with Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba. Both movies impressed the audiences, and now, everyone is waiting for part 3.

Raaz

Raaz, Raaz 2, Raaz 3, and Raaz Reboot, all four films of Raaz franchise, had prominent male leads. But, it is a female-centric franchise as everything revolves around a woman. Bipasha Basu starred in Raaz and Raaz 3, Kangana Ranaut played the lead role in Raaz 2, and Kriti Kharbhanda was seen in Raaz Reboot.

Well, of course, the list doesn't have many movies, but let's hope that filmmakers make more female-centric franchises.
