Key accused in Muktsar double murder case surrenders, sent to police custody
Davinder Singh, alias Rana, the key accused in the murder of a father-son duo in the Abul Khurana village on Saturday, surrendered before a court in Malout today. The court sent him to one-day police custody. According to the FIR lodged by the deceased Vinay Partap Brar’s daughter, Shazia Partap Brar, Rana allegedly shot dead her father and brother, Surya Partap Brar, over an old land dispute in the village when they were returning from the fields.
A senior police officer said, “The key accused, Davinder Singh, alias Rana, surrendered in court today, which has remanded him in one-day police custody. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.”
On Sunday, the Malout City police had booked Davinder Singh, alias Rana, Nachhattar Pal Singh, and his son Ravinder Pal Singh, alias Bubby — all residents of Abul Khurana village — along with an unidentified person. Nachhattar Pal Singh is the father-in-law of Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, while Ravinder Pal Singh is Randhawa’s brother-in-law. They are currently absconding.
Randhawa had stated on Sunday that his relatives were not present at the scene of the crime at the time of the double murder and were alleged to be conspirators in the FIR. The case was registered under Sections 103 and 302 of the BNS and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act.
As per the complainant’s statement in the FIR, Rana and the unidentified person committed the murders, while Nachhattar Pal Singh and Ravinder Pal Singh were involved in the conspiracy. Both victims were cremated on Sunday evening at their fields after the postmortem examination. Shazia lit the pyres of her father and brother. Vinay was the nephew of Congress leader and former Sardulgarh MLA Ajit Inder Singh.
