Muslim population: Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, and the global Muslim population  is expected to surge by a massive 70 percent, breaching the 3 billion mark by the year 2060. Muslim population to decline in this part of the world

According to a report by the Pew Research Center, Muslim population will witness a decline in the Asia-Pacific region, decreasing to 52.8% by 2050, against 61.7% in 2010. The report has cited socio-economic factors such as decline in fertility rates, urbanization and conversion as the major reasons behind this demographic change.

As per the Pew Research report, Muslim population in Europe, which was 2.7% in 2010, will remain stable for the foreseeable future, up until at least 2050.

The Muslim population in Europe will remain stable for the time being. In 2010, the Muslim population was 2.7% and the same situation will remain in 2050.

Hindus to decrease in these countries

The Pew Research Center report has predicted that Hinduism will emerge as the world’s third-largest religion by 2050, boasting a population of nearly 1.4 billion adherents worldwide, which marks a 34% increase from current numbers. However, the report also noted that while the Muslim population in India is growing at a steady pace, the number of Hindus in Muslim-majority nations are clearly declining.

According to the report, Hindu population is rapidly declining in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, and this trend is likely to continue in the future. The report cites reasons like religious intolerance, social repression, forced conversions, and communal violence for rapid decrease of Hindu population in these countries.

The report further noted that India, a Hindu-majority nation, will continue to remain a stronghold of Hinduism with a 77% majority in 2050, even as the the Muslim population of the country will reach 31 million (31 crores) at around the same time, making it home to world’s largest Muslim population, replacing Indonesia.
