Satara's Lonand To Get Dense Forest In Just 3 Years! Miyawaki Garden On 1 Hectare

The decision to develop a Miyawaki garden on one hectare of land in Lonand in Satara's Khandala was made during a general meeting of the Lonand Nagar Panchayat. This project aims to promote environmental protection and biodiversity, with the trees growing ten times faster than traditional plantations, creating a dense forest in just 2-3 years.

The Miyawaki method is a technique for creating dense, biodiverse forests by planting native species closely together. It promotes rapid growth, with trees reaching maturity in 2-3 years, enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, and stabilizing local ecosystems.

All department heads of the Nagar Panchayat were present at the meeting.

Meeting held to discuss

A recent meeting at the Nagar Panchayat office discussed several important decisions for the overall development of the area. During the meeting, the resolution for these development works, including the Miyawaki Garden, was approved.

The Miyawaki garden, developed in the forest area, will significantly contribute to environmental protection, biodiversity enhancement, and pollution control. The trees planted in this method grow much faster compared to traditional plantations and create a dense forest within just 2-3 years. This garden will improve the local climate, aid in rainwater absorption, and stabilize the groundwater level. Additionally, it will provide a safe habitat for local birds, butterflies, and insects. The garden will also serve as a natural education space for schools, colleges, and citizens and is expected to become a nature-rich tourist destination.

The project is seen as an inspiring step towards green development in Lonand.

Additionally, the meeting addressed water scarcity issues in various parts of the city, with the Mayor given the authority to identify various development works under the District Annual Plan (General) and Scheduled Caste Sub-component Plan for the year 2025-26.
