First look of Rani Mukerji in 'Mardaani 3' out, makers reveal 2026 release date

Last year in December, Yash Raj Films (YRF) announced a third film in the Mardaani film series headlined by Rani Mukerji, who is reprising her intense, no-nonsense cop avatar, Shivani Shivaji Roy aka Mardaani. As filming began this month, the banner revealed the first look of Rani in character on their Instagram handle along with the release date. Mardaani 3 will hit theatres on February 27, 2026.

The first look shared by YRF comes with the caption: "The countdown begins for #Mardaani3! On Holi, good will fight evil as Shivani Shivaji Roy returns to the big screen on February 27, 2026."

The film, directed by Abhiraj Minawala, is currently in the production stage and has a script by Aayush Gupta, known for penning the YRF series The Railway Men. The team has announced a release window of 2026.

Rani had shared earlier that it is "always special to wear the police uniform and play a character that has only given me love. I’m proud to essay the character of this feisty cop again in Mardaani 3 as a tribute to all the unsung, brave, self-sacrificing cops who work tirelessly every single day to keep us safe.”

The first Mardaani was released a decade ago, and the sequel in 2019. Pradeep Sarkar and Gopi Puthran directed the first and second films, respectively. Both films, produced by Aditya Chopra, were fairly well-received by the critics and audiences.

Rani was last seen in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.
